Adult Reconstruction Research Fellowship

Dr. Nathanael D. Heckmann invites rising 3rd or 4th year medical students to apply for a clinical resaerch fellowship position in the Department of Adult Reconstruction at Keck/USC for the 2022/2023 academic year.

Duration: Minimum 1-year committment

Place: Keck Medicine of USC- Los Angeles, CA

Start Date: May/June 2022

Students will have the opportunity to interact and work with attending faculty on a weekly basis under the direct guidance of a faculty mentor. Students are expected to complete a minimum of 3 research projects, including 1 first-author publication. Directed mentoring will focus on designing research projects, navigating the IRB process, data analysis, manuscript writing, and applying for grant funding. Attendance of bi-weekly didactic modules, monthly journal clubs, and weekly core curriculum lectures on various orthopaedic topics will also be encouraged.
Research fellows will also have the opportunity to observe orthopaedic procedures in the operating room and attend cadaver labs (this may be subject to change given the evolving nature of the COVID-19 pandemic).
