Trauma & Reconstructive Surgery

Number of Positions: 1
Duration: 1 year
Site: St. Michael’s Hospital
Supervisor: Dr. Jim Mahoney

Our fellowship training program is twelve months in length. It involves rotating with the three surgeons at St. Michael’s Hospital. The fellowship at St. Michael’s Hospital will involve clinical research and education activities. The clinical activity will be adult trauma and reconstructive including but not limited to maxillofacial trauma, hand, breast surgery and extremity surgery. There is a large volume of surgery in the ambulatory setting as well. Specific focus on one of these areas can be arranged. Fellows can gain exposure or experience in microvascular techniques. Clinical research is encouraged and we have a wound team with a research coordinator to facilitate projects. We are part of the University of Toronto Plastic Surgical Program and participate in all the educational activities. We have a number of research opportunities that are available at our institution as well. We have a strong focus in wound assessment and treatment and have a number of clinical and basic science research projects ongoing. Fellows in our program are encouraged to participate in a research project as a valuable adjunct to the clinical training that is available.
